Informed consent

You should have been informed exactly

about the planned intervention and the indication
it should be clear which type of intervention you do not want to be performed (eg removal of the uterus
you should have been informed about alternative therapies
and about risks and complications
Who will perform the intervention and what the experience of the surgeon is

Preoperative exams

A preoperative check up by the anaesthetist

Blood exams : tyhis varies from country to country red blood cells and liver/kidney function are minimalistic. In doubt is it wise to do a clotting exam.

RX Thorax and ECG above 40 years

Bowel preparation

Normally the bowel is only emptied before surgery

If however there is a risk of bowel involvement because of very severe adhesions or infiltrating endometriosis, a full bowel preparation will be given.

for 4 days before surgery, a low fiber diet is given
the evening before surgery a bowel prepartaion will be given generally by drinking some 6 L of a salt solution.

Ureter stent

when hydronephrosis : the ureter will be stented at the beginning of surgery
no hydronephrosis : a stent will be placed when the surgery necessated too much ureter dissection
